Gameplay

  • Defend your quadrant from the advancing fruit! 
  • Fire your arrow at a fruit of the same colour to clear it. 
  • Fire at a fruit of a different colour to exchange colours
  • Survive enough fruit as shown in the top right to complete each level, the border will turn green to show the level is complete.
  • The frequency of fruit spawning and the target number increase each level.
  • The reticle will flash where a new fruit is about to appear. 
  • If a new fruit is spawned in a full column or row, it's game over! The border will turn red.


 Controls

  • Move joystick (arrow keys) to move and point arrow in the right direction
  • Fire button (z) to fire the arrow in the chosen direction


Development

Written in a couple of days in KickAssembler for the C64 Cassette 50 Charity competition, in which all code and data has to sit below $1000 (4K) in memory. In this game I utilised a lot of stack space for lookup tables and was still left with just a couple of bytes, so no room for nice sounds, a title screen or level/complete message. 

As with other entries to the competition the downloads for play on a real machine or emulator  will not be available until the deadline has passed on March 31st.

Yeah I could do, I like the basic mechanic and it wouldn't take much to polish up a bit, add the powers etc. without any memory restrictions.
